YCM was created to give participation a wider meaning: celebrate Cameroonian identity, make room for different abilities and ages, create reasons to visit Yaoundé, and build a public event that communities and partners can grow with over time.
Afowiri “Kitz” Fondzenyuy built the Toghu Marathoner identity by running internationally in Toghu and using endurance sport as a platform for culture, autism advocacy and African visibility.
The Marathon Culturel de Yaoundé brings that storytelling home: a permanent event platform where runners, children, families, people with disabilities, visitors, brands and the diaspora can take part in the same public story.
Culture is not decoration around the race. It is one of the reasons the race exists.
Traditional attire, community, inclusive participation and the identity of Yaoundé turn the marathon into more than a timed sporting event. The ambition is to build an annual African property that can create sporting, cultural, tourism and commercial value together.
